The pastor appoints Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion for a five-year term. During the last year, St. Leo’s 76 Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion:
-
- Assisted the priests in the distribution of the Eucharist at the 6:15 and 9:00am daily Masses, at all Sunday and Holy Day Masses, as well as at other special Masses;
- Assisted the priests and deacons in the distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday;
- Brought Communion to approximately 30 shut-ins each week following the 9:00am Sunday Mass;
- Took communion to the sick and the elderly at the Commonwealth Assisted Living Facility and the Commonwealth and Fairfax Nursing Homes Mondays and Fridays (approximately 125 people per week);
In addition to continuing the above activities, plans for the coming year include the establishment of a mini-retreat for the ministers to help deepen their love for the Eucharist.
