Frequently Asked Questions About the Confirmation Ceremony

When does my child prepare for Confirmation?

Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is a two-year process, beginning in the fall of seventh grade.  There is a mandatory meeting for all parents of first-year Confirmation students. All necessary paperwork will be distributed to parents at that time.

 When is Confirmation?

Confirmation at St. Leo the Great is typically held in the fall.   The Confirmation Mass for fall 2017 will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 28 at 7:00 pm.  The Rehearsal will be Monday, November 27 at 5:45 p.m.

Where do we meet for Confirmation?

Students will meet in the gym.  Their sponsors will accompany the students to the gym and will be directed to another room.  Parents and other family members should go directly to the Church.

 How long does Confirmation last?

The Confirmation Mass will last about an hour. A reception with the Bishop will follow in the school gym.

 How should my child dress?

The Confirmation candidates will wear a robe  during Confirmation. Please make certain your child dresses in appropriate church clothing underneath the robe.  Boys are to wear dress pants, dress shoes, shirts, and ties.  Girls are to wear modest dresses, skirts or dress slacks with blouses, and dress shoes, with minimal and tasteful jewelry and makeup.

 Can we take pictures?

No photography is allowed during the Confirmation ceremony.

 Is there a reception?

Immediately following the ceremony,  all students and their sponsors will process to the school gym for a reception.  There will be opportunities for photographs with the Bishop at the reception.  We kindly request that nobody eat or drink until the Bishop arrives.  All Confirmandi MUST wear their robes, zipped, at the reception.

How do I return my child’s robe?

Following the reception, there will be a table set up for the newly-confirmed to return their robes.
