Resurrection Sunday

  • Themes to focus on:
    • Jesus rose from by his own power
    • Jesus broke the power sin and death and threw open the gates of heaven
    • Jesus appears to the disciples and breathes on them and gives them the power to forgive sins
  • Symbols for your prayer corner (Pick one or two)
    • Candle
    • Water (Baptism)
    • White folded up napkin (Head cloth from the tomb)
  • Activity(ies)
    • Before the children come down set up an Easter celebration space
      • Print a picture of the resurrection or an icon of the Anastasis
      • Surround it by flowers and surround it by the symbols of the resurrection and the Lord’s Supper.
      • Place the symbols of his suffering on a white napkin to show they have been glorified
      • When the kids come down play some Easter music, perhaps Morning Like This by Sandi Patty
    • As a family:
      • Teach the Easter Greeting:
        • Say: Christ is risen!
        • Response: Truly he is risen indeed.
      • Gather to pray first thing in the morning and have someone read the Easter Sequence (Victimae Paschali Laudes)
      • Play the Resurrection Eggs game
    • For teens and adults:
      • Read and compare the various accounts of the resurrection
