First Penance

Frequently Asked Questions – First Penance

When is First Penance?

The First Penance Service  will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018, for the current class.

When do we have to be there?

The First Penance Service begins at 11:00am.  Children will meet at the school at 10:30am.

Where do we meet?

Children will meet in classrooms and then sit with their teachers and classmates during the First Penance service.  Parents and other family members are invited to sit elsewhere in the Church.

How long does the service last?

The First Penance Service typically lasts approximately 1 ½ hours.

How should my child dress?

Please make certain your child dresses in appropriate Church clothing.  Please do not wear blue jeans, shorts, sweatshirts, sporting attire, flip-flops, or tennis shoes.

Is photography allowed inside the Church?

No photography is allowed in the Church or the Church vestibule.  You may, however, take photographs outside of the Church.

Will my child get to choose the priest to whom he confesses?

If a child wishes to choose a specific Confessor, they may do so; however, that may change the time commitment depending on how many students are receiving and how many priests are available.

Will my child confess face-to-face with the priest?

Each confessional is set up to allow confessions behind the screen.  Only certain confessionals allow face-to-face confessions.  If confessing face-to-face is your child’s preference, please make certain they inform their teacher prior to the First Penance service.

What else do we need to know?

At the end of each individual confession, the children return to their original pew to do their penance.
